Business people not keen on iPhone
Apple's new iPhone isn't generating much interest among business people in the UAE, reported Gulf News. Despite efforts by Apple to market the new iPhone 3G, which was released on Friday in 21 countries, to business users, few in Dubai say they would use the phone for work, even if it was available in the region. There are plans to release the device in some countries in the Middle East, but no dates have been announced.

Intel launches new chip package
US-based Intel Corp has unveiled a new batch of chips for laptops that promises longer battery life and better graphics-rendering abilities, reported AP. The company is vying to capture the attention of computer buyers looking for crisper high-definition video playback on their laptops and less battery drain. The latest from Intel is its new Centrino 2 'platform' - a package that includes a processor, related chipset and wireless communications chip.

Etisalat net profit up 37.1%
Etisalat has reported Dhs2.99bn ($815m)in net profit for the second quarter. This takes net profit for the first half of 2008 to Dhs5.11bn, an increase of 37.1% on 2007 figures. Net profit in the second quarter of 2007 was recorded at DhS1.89BN and DhS3.73BN for the first half of 2007.

Zain stocks soar by 5.5%
Kuwait-based Zain has posted a 5.5% jump on its stocks on volume yesterday. Analysts say the company's investments including a $4.5bn capital increase and market expansions in Africa and a new venture in Saudi Arabia could weigh on profits.

Mobily, Etisalat in roaming deal
Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) has launched a 'Mobile Roaming Alliance' in conjunction with its mother company, UAE's Etisalat and its sister company Etisalat Misr in Egypt, Arab News has reported. The scheme offers Mobily customers savings of up to 53% whenever they roam in the UAE and Egypt. Etisalat and Etisalat Misr customers travelling into KSA from the UAE and Egypt will also enjoy the same privileges and flat rate.

Nedaa launches in UAE
Nedaa, a government-run wireless communications service provider, has been launched after winning approval from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority to serve private companies in the UAE, reported Gulf News. The company's service allows its subscribers to make conference or individual calls at low costs. People can also send text messages through the system, while companies like taxi operators can avail themselves of a tracking system.
