Verizon to open Dubai office
- Verizon Business plans to open an office in Dubai Internet City to further strengthen the company's service and support capabilities across the Middle East. The office, to be opened next month, will provide a local contact in the same regional time zone for Verizon Business' multinational customers with operations in the Middle East, as well as a base for the company's ongoing regional expansion plans, the company said in a statement.

Etisalat, Ericcson launch promotion
- Etisalat, in partnership with Sony Ericsson, has announced a promotion in which customers in the UAE can get an advanced Etisalat customized mobile phone, connectivity and excellent cost savings in one bundle, according to a statement. The first of its kind promotion offers a customised Sony Ericsson k660i mobile phone, a special number Wasel SIM card and a pre-paid credit of Dhs25, all for Dhs999. This bundle will be available at stores beginning Sunday 11 may 2008.

Mobily share price 'unfair', says CEO
- Eng. Kaled Al Kaf, CEO of the UAE's Mobily, the second mobile service provider in Saudi Arabia, said yesterday the price of his company's on the Saudi bourse is 'unfair', reported Gulf News. He said experts believe the price should be above 80 riyals given the company's excellent performance, but its current rate is about 60 riyals.

Firms asked to ban anonymous users
- The Egyptian government has asked mobile telephone operators to block services to anonymous users. Currently there are several hundred thousand users who have not registered names and home addresses to telephone numbers. Two of the three operators, Vodafone Egypt and Mobinil EMOB.CA, have begun complying with the request.

- Telecom operator du has announced that it had signed up 1.75m subscribers by the end of Q1. 1.4m of these hold active lines. Revenues for the period grew 18% from Q4 2007 to $206m, leaving the company reporting an operating loss for the period of $16.78m.

Batelco refills with BisB
- Batelco has teamed up with Bahrain Islamic Bank to offer customers online facilities to refill their Batelco SimSim accounts. Customers can now use the bank's hotline or internet e-banking website to top up their accounts.

MSN sets up Maghreb portal
- MSN has set up a Maghreb portal through a joint venture between Microsoft and LINKdotNET to provide international and local news and entertainment content in the Maghreb region. LINKdotNET is the managing operator of MSN Arabia and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Orascom.

Samsung considers Mideast plant
- Samsung Electronics and its local distributors in Saudi Arabia said locating an assembly plant in the region is a future possibility, reported Arab News. The announcement was made in a recent visit to Saudi Arabia, noting consideration from local surveys in the Gulf.
