Dell wins retail vendor award
- Dell has won the award for Retail Vendor of the Year for notebooks and desktops at a ceremony held alongside the Digital Consumer Channel. The Middle East Retail Academy prize was voted for by 300 industry insiders.

Du completes Skype blockage
- UAE telecom firm Du has completed the blockage of the telephone aspect of VoIP provider Skype. Subscribers to the operator are now no longer able to make, or receive, calls to mobiles or fixed landlines from their computers. PC-to-PC calls are still possible. All access to Skype for subscribers to Etisalat, the UAE's other telecom operator, has been blocked for over two years.

Qatar telecom in $1.8bn deal
- Qatar Telecom has announced that it will buy a 40.8% stake in Indonesian mobile phone company PT Indosat. The $1.8bn deal will see the emirate's phone operator buy the stake from Asia Mobile Holdings, its joint venture with Singapore Technologies Telemedia, Bloomberg has reported.

HTC launches new 3G phone
- High Tech Computer Corporation has launched a new 3G version of its HTC Touch phone. The HTC Touch Diamond offers a 2.8-inch LCD touch screen and has a new 3D touch interface called TouchFLO 3D. Users can zoom and pan websites with one hand and automatically view optimised content that has been specially created to fit the display. 'Free time' program launched by Du
- UAE-based telecom provider Du has launched a new promotion in which users can receive free credit every time they make an international call to any destination. Under the 'free time' promotion, customers will get one fil of credit for every second of every international call. Customers can save as much as 60% on international call rates depending on the country and time they call.

Du tests online payment portal
- UAE-based telecom provider Du is developing an online bill payment portal aimed at easing the process of making payments. Customers can gain access to the portal to check their online bills by contacting Du on Tel: 391 0000 or email: business.customercare@du.ae. Du will then provide the portal url and issue a username and password. Du expects the portal to be fully operational by the year end.

Nokia unveils new internet map service
- Nokia has introduced new services in the Mena region as part of Ovi, the company's mobile internet service brand name, according to a statement. Maps 2.0, the updated version of Nokia Maps has left beta stage and is now ready for consumers to download. Nokia's mapping and navigation solutions give people navigation features, local content and world maps directly on their mobile device.

UAE cracks down on illegal decoders
- The UAE Ministry of Economy has ordered port authorities across the country to increase their efforts to confiscate satellite TV decoders being imported illegally into the country. The ministry also issued a new warning to those involved in illegally importing the decoders, which decrypt pay TV channels and violate the UAE's copyright law. The Dubai police have already conducted several raids.
