Du to post $11m profit
- UAE-based telecom operator Du has been forecast to post a year on year net profit of Dhs40.94m ($11m) for the third quarter - its first since launching last year, according to an industry forecast by Al Mal Capital Research. The predicted turnaround comes at least two quarters earlier than expected for Du, which said last year that it expected to become profitable only by the first quarter of 2009. According to the report, du's revenue is expected to grow to Dhs937.69m, up 127.5% year on year, reported The National.

Etisalat reduces IP Connect fees
- UAE telecoms provider Etisalat has announced that it will reduce its IP Connect fees by up to 70% in a bid to increase the service's popularity. The move, applicable from October 1, includes the introduction of possible annual contracts and monthly rather than quarterly billing.

Tata in MPLS deal with Batelco
- Tata Communications has partnered with Batelco for its MPLS network expansion into the Middle East. The partnership enables Tata Communications to offer MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) VPN services into Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and other locations within the region.

BenQ to unveil laptop
- BenQ has announced that it will bring out the latest version of its Joybook Lite notebook computer in the Gulf. The notebook features an Intel Atom processor and Windows XP. It will be available in an 8.9-inch version and 10-inch version.

Iran telecom attracts foreign interest
- According to an official of the Tehran Stock Exchange, several foreign companies from South Africa, Saudi Arabia, France, Indonesia and Russia have expressed interest in buying a major stake in Iran's state-owned telecommunications firm, Reuters has reported. Shares representing 5% of the company fetched $360m when they were sold on the stock exchange in August.

WiMAX to roll out in Mideast
- Green Packet Networks has launched in the Middle East the first dedicated WiMAX consultancy firm in the region to offer first-hand experience and expertise to WiMAX players. These include business planning, technology deployment, sales and marketing strategies, and roll-out management. Green Packet Networks (Bahrain) (GPN) will be present at this year's Gitex, in the Zabeel Hall, Stand Number Z-D1.

Qtel cuts data charges by 90%
- Qatar Telecom has cut data charges for its Mobile Broadband services by 90%. The move is part of a range of customer offers currently being rolled out by Qtel as rival operator Vodafone prepares begin operations.

Oman telecom fined $5.4m
- Oman's telephone regulator has fined Oman Telecommunications Co, the sultanate's biggest phone company, for not registering 260 microwave links with the authority, reported Bloomberg. The company will pay 2.1 million rials ($5.4m) to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, according to a statement posted on the Muscat bourse website today.
