- Amadeus has taken leadership in the Middle East market with a share of 39.5% in December 2007. Amadeus is a technology partner for providers, sellers, and buyers of travel, providing distribution, IT and point-of-sale solutions.

Busch parks in Palm Jebel Ali
- Busch Entertainment Corporation will give license to its brands to Nakheel, which is investing the capital to build and operate four theme parks in The Palm Jebel Ali, according to news reports. The theme parks include Worlds of Discovery - SeaWorld, Aquatica, Busch Gardens and Discovery Cove.

Wild Discovery eyes Dubai as HQ
- Wild Discovery announced its plan to open new offices in Dubai and expand towards Abu Dhabi along with other emirates to augment its regional operations. The company spent Dhs300,000 in sales training for its regional staff and eyes Dubai as the basis of operations.

Nile Hilton converted to Nile Ritz-Carlton
- Ritz Carlton has signed a deal with Misr Hotels, a subsidiary of The Holding Company for Tourism, Hotels and Cinema, to convert the Nile Hilton to The Nile Ritz-Carlton, Cairo. Ritz-Carlton will soon commence a complete restoration and renovation of the half-century old property.

Work on Capital Centre hotel begins
- Abu Dhabi based National Corporation for Tourism & Hotels, which owns Danat Hotels and Resorts, has announced that it has started construction work on its hotel at the Capital Centre development project at a total cost of over Dhs1bn ($272m), reported Khaleej Times. Fahad Al Al Awadi, deputy Managing Director of NCT&H, said the hotel, which will open in 2010, will be Abu Dhabi's largest hotel and conference facility.

Sri Lanka targets Mideast travellers
- Sri Lanka Tourism has joined hands with Qatar-based Al Jazeera channel on a major publicity campaign targeting Arabic speaking travellers in the Middle East market, reported Sri Lanka's Sunday Times. Sri Lanka's Deputy Minister of Tourism Faiszer Musthapha said 'there is a need to be more aggressive in promoting the country’s image among Middle East travellers'. Sri Lanka will receive editorial coverage, special interviews exposure on the web site and enhanced visibility on the English Channel.

$170m boutique hotel for Greece Isle on 'The World'
- European aristocrat Baron Jean van Gysel de Meise, owner of Le Plaza in Brussels and the boutique V…Vejer in Spain, has announced plans to launch a luxury boutique hotel on the island of 'Greece' on Nakheel's The World project. Valued at Dhs624m ($170m), 'V…Greece on The World' will offer 65 guest living spaces, all with a unique business angle. Investors who buy 'V…Greece on The World' property will have access to that property for 2 months of the year, and earn a 50% share of the property's gross income over the remaining 10 months.

Gulfood opens
- The 13th Gulfood Exhibition opened yesterday at the Dubai Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, aimed at boosting food and hospitality industry in the region, according to news reports. The show was up by 20% registration and was seen to attract some 2,500 companies from 70 countries that specialise in the food, drink and hospitality businesses.
