  • 300,000 traffic violations in 3 months

  • Dubai police issued more than 300,000 traffic fines from April to June, 2008. The offences, including speeding and jumping red signal, were caught on radar, said the police.

  • UAE unveils car pooling web page

  • A dedicated webpage to register private car pooling service in the UAE is set for launch next week, reported Khaleej Times. The service is expected to reduce traffic and help eliminate the illegal taxis plying on Dubai roads. The new car pool webpage can be accessed at www.rta.ae. A decision on allowing six- and eight-seater vans to start similar car pooling services will be taken in the near future. But, currently, only light vehicles are approved to offer this service in Dubai.

  • Stroer to build 550 bus shelters in Abu Dhabi

  • Germany's Stroer Concept Group has signed a franchise agreement with the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport to build 550 bus shelters throughout the emirate, reported Gulf News. The project will be completed in the summer of 2009, and will include air-conditioned shelters in some areas.

  • DP World in Yemen Port JV

  • DP World has secured the deal to operate and develop the container handling facilities in the port of Aden. The Yemen Gulf of Aden Port Corporation have agreed to DP World for the lease of Aden Container Terminal and Ma'alla Container Terminal, and a joint venture will see a $220m investment in the port, including building a new 400 metre berth extension to Aden Container Terminal.

  • Oman allocation up for Duqm port

  • Oman has increased its allocation for the Duqm Port and Dry Dock project to OR700m from the initial investment of OR368.9m, Gulf News has reported. The allocation will be used for the expansion of the overall capacity and size of the port to accommodate supertankers and mega-sized chemical carriers.

  • Dubai World completes Gazeley deal

  • Economic Zones World (EZW), a Dubai World company announced it has completed the acquisition of Gazeley Limited. Gazeley is a Wal-Mart-owned global provider of sustainable logistics space.

  • Maximus posts $45.5m sales in H1

  • Maximus Air Cargo announced it has almost reached a five-fold increase in aircraft hours sold during the first half of 2008 compared to the same period last year. The company made a gross sales of $45.5m, compared to $47.4m for all of 2007.

  • New road projects at Dubai airport

  • The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has launched new projects to improve the road network around Dubai International Airport. Improvements on the airport road include the provision of an additional entry point to motorists driving from Al Rashidiya towards the airport car park. Another direct entry point will be provided to serve motorists driving from Deira towards the parking zone.
