Talks restart for Jordan railway
The Jordanian government is to begin negotiations next week with a Kuwaiti-Spanish consortium to build the Amman-Zarqa light railway project. The move comes after authorities canned the original JD153m ($217m) deal, won by a Pakistani-Chinese-Jordanian consortium, on legal grounds. Work on the 30-month project is due to begin in late June. Once completed commuters will be able to travel between Zarqa City and the Raghadan station in Amman city centre.

Saudi Arabia to upgrade seaports
Saudi Arabia's Port Authority said seaports in the country will face redevelopment, envisaging an investment of SR30bn to become modernised and equipped ports, cited Arab News. Jeddah Islamic Port, which takes in 60% of Saudi Arabia's seaborne imports, will be one of the first beneficiaries to get a facelift and expanded on modern lines sooner than expected.

SkyCargo to fly daily to Cape Town
Emirates SkyCargo has launched new services for Cape Town, South Africa and will fly daily beginning Marh 30. The SkyCargo has carried an average of 12 tonnes a week from Cape Town through its road feeder services to Johannesburg and expects increase of at least 50 tonnes per week with the new direct flights. The carrier looks into servicing local producers of fresh and organic foods, especially from the Western Cape.

Serco to run Dubai Metro
The Road and Transport Authority has named UK-based company to operate and maintain the Dubai Metro system for the first ten years of operations, cited Gulf News. RTA expects about 80% of UAE nationals will be trained to run the Dubai Metro system by the end of the contract.

Dhs8bn roads programme for UAE
The UAE is undertaking an Dhs8bn road upgrade and construction programme for the Northern Emirates. Around 600km will be improved or built, taking five years, including the Dubai Fujairah dual carriageway, which will have an additional two lanes added. The project aims to improve quality of life for citizens and to help the construction boom, which is seeing people move into wider areas of the country. The programme is part of a Dhs16bn infrastructure development programme.

Jeddah to host international shipping forum
The First Saudi International Forum on Ports and Shipping will be held on Saturday at Jeddah Hilton Hotel, reported Gulf News. More than 500 experts in the fields of ports and marine navigation from within the Kingdom and abroad will participate in the four-day event, said Saleh Al Turki, president of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The forum will be organised by the Saudi Ports Authority, in cooperation with the Jeddah chamber and the Al Fares group. The First International Exhibition on Sea Ports will also be held on the sidelines of the forum.

CAE wins $50m Dubai Metro deal
China Architectural Engineering announced it has won new projects worth $50m for installation of high-end curtain wall systems at stations on the Red Line of the Dubai Metro System. The company is also eyeing to seal contracts between $80-$100m for auxiliary structures on the same transit line.
