  • Dubai firm to build Red Sea bridge

  • Dubai-based Middle East Development plans to build the first bridge across the Red Sea linking Yemen and Djibouti, reported Reuters. The bridge, which will be 28.5 kilometres long, will cost $14bn, with construction completed in phases over seven to 15 years.

  • Louvre engineering contract set

  • The Tourism Development & Investment Company has awarded the engineering services contract for the Louvre Abu Dhabi to Buro Happold. The UK consultancy will work with designer Jean Nouvel on concept validation of the initial design and on the schematic design of the museum, which is scheduled to open in 2012.

  • Jordan light railway date set

  • The Amman Zarqa Light Railway project is scheduled to begin operating in 2011. The service will run 26km from Zarqa City to Raghadan station in Amman city centre and is expected to transport 100,000 passengers per day. The service and infrastructure will be built and operated by a Kuwaiti-Spanish consortium according to the terms of the $335.5m deal.

  • Agility wins $2.8bn deal with US military

  • Kuwait-based Agility Logistics has won a contract worth up to $2.8bn with the US military. The one-year contract, which was awarded by the US Defence Logistics Agency and begins on June 3, covers the supply and distribution of food and non-food products to US forces in Iraq and Kuwait.

  • DMC, Dubai World ink deal

  • Dubai Maritime City, the world's first purpose-built maritime center and a member of the Dubai World Group of companies, has announced the signing of a contract that grants Drydocks World-Dubai exclusive rights to run and manage Dubai Maritime City's industrial precinct. Under the terms of the contract, Drydocks World-Dubai will manage all components of the industrial precinct, including wet berths, dry berths, workshops, warehouses, the 3,000-ton and 6,000-ton ship lifts, the ship lift control building, central administration building and covered yacht repair area, according to a statement.

  • Three Dubai metro stations to offer parking

  • Dubai Metro users will get free parking spaces at three major locations to encorage them to use the system, reported Gulf News. The largest parking lot, which will accommodate 6,000 cars, is being built in Al Ghusais at the end of the Green Line. A second parking area that will hold 2,800 cars is being built at Rashidiya station in Deira on the Red Line, and a third lot for around 2,000 cars is being constructed near Jumeirah Islands station on Shaikh Zayed Road. There will be no private parking at the rest of the metro stations.

  • Dnata Cargo, Kanoo and SDV International Logistics, France, are teaming up to form a new logistics company in the UAE. SDV-UAE will be 49% owned by SDV and 51% equally owned by Kanoo and Dnata.

  • Abu Dhabi to get 9,000 taxis

  • A fleet of 9,000 taxis is set to hit roads of Abu Dhabi to cater for about million passengers a day, according to the Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars (TransAD). The new taxis will cover 80% of the emirate's total area, including Al Ain and Western Region, reported Khaleej Times.
