DHL to expand pharma logistics
- DHL is increasing its pharmaceuticals logistics operations in the region to take advantage of rising demand for healthcare products and services. The company told Emirates Business 24/7 that it is seeing huge growth in the sector and wants to tap into that market. In September, once completed, it will open a 54,000 sq ft facility in Jebel Ali in Dubai.

Dubai gets new buses
- The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has upgraded its bus fleet, bringing in 43 from German engineering firm Man. It has also withdrawn 37 older buses from its fleet. Part of its plan to improve public transport, the RTA said it hoped the new buses would encourage commuters to use buses.

Agility may sell stake to foreign investors
- Kuwait-based Agility, the Gulf's biggest logistics company, told Reuters yesterday it wants to attract more foreign investors as it seeks to expand abroad. Chief Executive Officer Tarek Sultan said the firm might sell from 1% to up to 30% of the company depending on investor demands.

Dubai Drydocks to manage industrial zone
- Dubai Drydocks World, a shipbuilding and repair unit of Dubai World, has signed a contract to manage the industrial area within Dubai Maritime City. Dubai Drydocks will manage all components of the industrial precincts, including wet berths, dry berths, workshops, warehouses, the 3,000-tonne and 6,000-tonne ship lifts, the ship lift control building, central administration building and covered yacht repair area.

Dubai metro begins trial run
- Dubai successfully conducted the first test of its new Metro train on Monday on part of the Red Line on Shaikh Zayed Road, reported Gulf News. The driverless train, which went back and forth several times during the test run, has been undergoing several tests for the last two weeks and its running on the track was part of the testing procedure. The tests will continue for the next two to three months.

Dubai Parallel road on course
- The 4th contract of Roads Parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road Project worth Dhs1.85bn has been approved, according to Dubai's Road and Transport Authority. The project is a passageway which covers 108km stretching from Sheikh Rashid Road (to the north) and terminating at the outskirts of the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Construction works in the first contract of the project are set to be completed in February 2009, covering road construction in Al Barsha and Al Qouz Industrial Area.

RTA seeks taxi service upgrade
- The Road and Transport Authority in Dubai has signed an agreement with taxi franchise companies Cars, Al Arabia, Metro, National, Citi Taxi and Hatta Taxi, as well as Dubai Taxi Agency, seeking to upgrade the level of service to the public through performance indicators.

DHL on SR100m Saudi expansion
- DHL Express said it is investing over SR100m for infrastructure development across Saudi Arabia. DHL eyes to open 15 new branches, to bring the total number of branches to over 50 across the country.
