UAE to open ship, yacht licensing
- The UAE Transport Authority has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Dubai Maritime City Authority to open licensing and registration bureaus for commercial ships, yachts and leisure boats, said news reports. The first of the bureaus is expected to open office in Dubai Maritime City by June this year.

BAE wins $6m Jordan contract
- BAE Systems has won a $6m contract to provide family of medium tactical vehicles (FMTV) to Jordan. This is the third order for Jordan in the last four years, bringing the total value to over $16m, the company said in a statement. Work on the foreign military sale contract will be performed in Sealy, Texas, and managed by the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command. The work is expected to be complete by October 2008.

Dubai Cargo Village reports 10.9% growth
- Dubai Cargo Village handled 153,962.64 tonnes in March compared to 138,760.24 tonnes in March 2007, an increase of 10.96%, a statement said. Imports and exports increased by 11.89% to 147,983.61 tonnes in March 2008 from 132,258.30 tonnes in March 2007. Transshipments increased by 14.51% to 83,558.75 tonnes in March 2008 from 72,972.01 tonnes in March 2007.

DP World begins work on Peruvian terminal
- DP World has begun work on the DP World Callao container terminal in the Muelle Sur area of Callao Port, near Peru's capital, Lima. The company was awarded a 30-year concession to build and operate the terminal in June 2006. The first phase of the project will see around $210m invested in two berths comprising 660 metres of quay line and 22 hectares of yard, capable of handling vessels of 5,500 TEU nominal capacity and about 800,000 TEUs. Completion of the first phase is scheduled for the second half of 2009.

Airbus opens logistics centre in Dubai
- Airbus has opened a material and logistics centre at the Dubai Airport Free Zone, the company said. The centre, which covers over 3,700 square metres of storage space and office facilities, will stock more than 5,000 different parts with around 43,000 items in at any one time, offering customer support and aircraft spares distribution to regional and worldwide destinations 24 hours a day.

Dubai plans new tram
- Dubai is to build a tram network that will link major developments in the new residential, commercial and business district in the emirate, reported Gulf News. The 14.5km tram line will run on Al Sufouh Road connecting the Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Residence, and Jumeirah Lake Towers. The tram will be connected to Dubai Metro's Red Line on Shaikh Zayed Road at three points including the Mall of the Emirates station, Dubai Marina station and Ibn Battuta Mall station. It will also interlink with the monorail of The Palm Jumeirah at the entry point of The Palm at Al Sufouh Road.

Dubai awards $1.1bn contract for tram
- Dubai's Roads & Transport Authority has awarded a Dhs4bn ($1.1bn) contract to Alstom, Serco Group, Parsons Corp and Besix Group to design and build a 14 kilometer-long tram line and 19 metro stations in Dubai, reported Bloomberg.

Logistica buys stake in Enkay Express
- Logistica, a niche market logistics provider based in Kuwait, has acquired a majority stake in Enkay Express, a regional freight forwarder with 26 years of operational expertise in the Middle East, reported Khaleej Times. The acquisition brings all freight forwarding activities of Naqeeb & Khattar in Kuwait and those of Enkay Express in Dubai, Bahrain and Syria under Logistica. The companies will now be combined under the 'Enkay Express' brand.
