ProLogis, Arcapita in Gulf warehousing venture
- ProLogis, the world's largest industrial real estate investment trust, and Bahrain-based Islamic investment bank Arcapita Bank are joining forces to develop warehouses in the Gulf, reported Bloomberg. The new venture, ProLogis Middle East, will build and buy $1bn-worth of logistics and warehousing space in countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.

DP World posts $420m profit
- Dubai-based DP World, the world's fourth-largest port operator, has reported a profit of $420m for 2007, up 52% on the previous year. The company said its revenue from 42 terminals in 22 countries last year increased 32% to $2.7bn.

Dell setting up Dubai logistics hub
- Dell is setting up a logistics hub in Dubai to distribute its products throughout the Middle East and East African region. The world's number two computer manufacturer will eventually set up in Logistics City in Dubai, as it targets the rapid growth in IT being experienced by emerging markets. Michael Dell, Chairman and CEO, was in Dubai on his first trip to the Middle East, to announce the move.

DP World, Emaar on seaport deal
- Emaar, The Economic City and DP World have signed an agreement for the develop and operate a seaport in King Abdullah Economic City. A multipurpose cargo terminal is scheduled to be operational by end of 2010 and a 1.6 million TEU container terminal by mid-2011.

F1 taxi rip-off
- Taxi drivers in Bahrain have been criticised for overcharging passengers in the run up to the Formula One race being held in the kingdom. People have complained that drivers are refusing to turn on their metres. When questioned by the Bahrain Tribune, some denied the accusations, but admitted they were fixing fares because they had 'no change'. The taxi drivers in turned blamed illegal operators for the high fares. Anyone caught operating a taxi without a permit faces prosecution, authorities said.

- Empost has launched a 'Pack & Remove' specialized service that offers moving households, office relocations, and transporting exhibition equipment. The facility is both available for domestic as well as international customers.

UAE to examine road deaths
- The Health Authority Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with the UAE University, plans to undertake a Dhs5.8m ($1.6m) research project that will examine the causes of deaths in car accidents, reported Gulf News. The project aims to reduce deaths, injuries and disabilities in traffic accidents, and related health care costs. A new database will be set up, consisting of a fixed representative sample of serious accidents.

BA World Cargo expands freighter programme
- British Airways World Cargo has announced the launch of a second Boeing 727 freighter routing connecting Lahore and Bahrain, effective April 1 2008. The additional weekly rotation marks the expansion of BA World Cargo's successful partnership with DHL in the region and comes as a direct response to increased customer demand. The new rotation means that BA World Cargo now operates two Lahore-Bahrain routings per week while maintaining one Karachi-Bahrain rotation, the company said in a statement.
