Lindner Depa wins metro contract
- Lindner Depa, a joint venture between Depa, the largest interior contracting company in the Middle East, and Lindner Group, a leading interior contractor in Europe, has been awarded the contract for the complete fit out of 13 of the Dubai Metro's Red Line stations. The stations will follow two schemes, fire and water, and Depa's JV will fit them out with materials and images to simulate the two. The project has a contract value of Dhs375m ($102m) and an expected completion date of September 2009.

Chinese company wins Dubai Metro contract
- China Architectural Engineering has signed a contract worth approximately $50m to design, engineer, fabricate and install external envelopes for eight out of 23 Red Line stations of the Dubai Metro System, reported Gulf News. The company also announced that it expects to be awarded contracts in the range of $80-$100m to build external envelopes, including entranceways, walkways, bridges and parking lots, for associated facilities of the Red Line, including passenger walkways and bridges.

Dubai to offer bike lanes
- Dubai's Roads and Transports Authority has announced that specially designated tracks for bicycles would be operational in four areas of the emirate soon, reported Khaleej Times. An official said the first paths might be located near Jumeirah beach, the creek, and various colleges and universities.

DP World launches automated gate system
- DP World will activate its new automated gate system, 'Asraa', today across all the gates within the container terminal 2 at its flagship Jebel Ali Port, reported Khaleej Times. Container terminal 1 gates are currently undergoing installation of the system and will also be ready shortly. A special tagging device with a microchip fixed on a truck's chassis will be detected by sensors at gates fitted with Optical Character Readers and Radio Frequency Identification machines to record entry and exit through gates. Heavy vehicles will no longer need to stop to finalise entry or exit transactions and obtain gate passes. A one-off payment of Dhs300 is required for a permanent tag.

$5bn railway contract to be awarded in May
- The Saudi Railways Organisation plans to announce the winner of the $5bn landbridge contract in early May, reported Khaleej Times. The organisation's president, Abdul Aziz Al-Hoqail, said experts were reviewing the financial offers made by the four qualified consortia to carry out the project, which will link the kingdom from east to west. The project includes construction of a 950km line between Riyadh and Jeddah, as well as a 115km link between the industrial city of Jubail and Dammam.

Agility buys 11% in Industriaplex
- Agility has bought a 10.82% stake in US-based Industriaplex Inc., a next generation B2B service provider. The alliance is designed to provide various logistics services to Industriaplex customers while Agility can offer Industriaplex's sourcing services to its existing global customer base.

New speed limits for RAK
- Ras Al Khaimah is cutting speed limits on its roads from April 1. Speed limits on many streets will be reduced by 20km/h, depending on how much of an accident black spot it is. The highways will be reduced to 100km/h. Authorities are cutting speeds in an effort to reduce the number of accidents, they said. Radars are being set up on the busiest streets to monitor traffic speeds.

New Dubai Sharjah buses
- A new fleet of 15 double-decker buses is being introduced to transport passengers between Dubai and Sharjah from September. That number will be increased to 70, as more passengers struggle with the daily commute between the two emirates. The environmentally friendly buses will be linked to a control centre via satellite navigation and all will have wheelchair access
