CAE wins $50m Dubai Metro deal
- China Architectural Engineering announced it has won new projects worth $50m for installation of high-end curtain wall systems at stations on the Red Line of the Dubai Metro System. The company is also eyeing to seal contracts between $80-$100m for auxiliary structures on the same transit line.

Arab ship repair company up 19%
- The Arab Ship and Repair Yard saw sales rise by 19% to $143m and the value of completed repairs hit $166.9m last year, the company has said. The docks were fully-occupied throughout the year, with 145 vessels repaired, ranging from crude carriers to offshore rigs.

450 more speed cameras for Dubai
- Dubai police will soon install 450 new speed cameras on the city's roads, boosting the total number of cameras in the emirate to 800, reported Gulf News. The cameras are being installed to deter reckless driving. The announcement came as part of a coordination meeting between Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Barloworld buys Swift Freight for $70m
- South Africa's Barloworld Logistics has announced that it has bought Dubai-based Swift Freight International for $70m, reported Gulf News. Barloworld CEO Paul Stuiver said his company was attracted to Swift's 46 branches in 21 countries and is buying the Dubai firm along with its stakes in other companies. He said the acquisition gives the firm a strong presence in countries such as India, China and the UAE, and will increase the company's revenues by 75%.

China Railway Group wins Moroccan contract
- China Railway Group, Asia's biggest construction company, has won a $257m contract to build two highways in Morocco, reported Bloomberg. The projects will take 30 months to complete, the company said, but no date was given on when the projects will begin.

Arab states' naval market grows 65%
- The naval market in the Mena region grew 65% between 2000 and 2008 from $14bn to $23bn amid economic growth, increasing sea-borne trade and transnational threats and security concerns, according to Bob Nugent, a consultant at AMI International, speaking at the first-ever maritime defence exhibition being held in Qatar. The trend is expected to continue between 2008 and 2027, with the region forecast to acquire more than $14bn in frigates, destroyers, cruisers, aircraft carriers and submarines during the period, reported Gulf News.

Dredging begins at site of new Khalifa Port
- Abu Dhabi Ports Company said it started dredging and reclamation of 45 million cubic metres of material on February 17 at the site of the planned Khalifa Port, one of the world's largest greenfield offshore port and industrial zone developments. The port, a major element of Abu Dhabi Ports Company's multi-billion dollar Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone, will provide infrastructure for the growing industrial and commercial sectors of Abu Dhabi, as outlined in the Government's Plan Abu Dhabi 2030.

Barloworld acquires Swift
- Barloworld Logistics announced it is acquiring Dubai-based Swift Group and its affiliates in the Far East, India, UAE, Africa and Germany. Dubai-based Swift has approximately 700 employees in its 46 offices in 21 countries, spanning the Middle East, Far East, the Indian sub-continent, and Africa.
