Abu Dhabi hit by fog
- Thick fog once again caused major disruption at Abu Dhabi International Airport (ADIA) on Sunday, reported Gulf News. A spokesman for ADIA revealed the airport was closed for more than five hours, from 4am until 9.30am, with ten passenger flights and four cargo arrivals needing to be diverted. Seven of the passenger flights were re-directed to Doha, while two were sent to Muscat and one to Al Ain.

Eurojet $2bn from Saudi
- Rolls-Royce, a member of the Eurojet consortium, has said that the supply, and subsequent support, of EJ200 engines as part of the Salam Project, which will see Saudi Arabia buy 72 Eurofighter Typhoons for use by its air force, will be worth more than $2bn. Italy's Avio, Germany's MTU Aero Engines and Spain's ITP make up the other members of the Eurojet consortium.

Etihad offers more for Hajj
- Etihad Airways is upping its services to Saudi Arabia to cater to Hajj pilgrims. The carrier will provide two extra flights to Jeddah on December 13 and 16, in addition to its regular daily service, while it will offer two flights to Medina on December 11 and a single flight on December 12 and 14. Etihad will provide eight additional flights from Jeddah to Abu Dhabi from December 23-27.

Star Aviation for India
- Star Aviation, established by several Dubai based non resident Indian business figures, has received a licence to operate a low cost airline in India, reported Gulf News. Syed Mohammed Salahuddin, the MD of the ETA Ascon Group, said operations should begin within nine months in the south of the country with a fleet of up to five aircraft. The firm plans to base its hub in Chennai, Bangalore or Hyderabad.

Dubai Airports seeks staff
- Dubai Airports, the newly formed firm which manages Dubai International Airport and will also operate the giant Al Maktoum International Airport presently being built at Dubai World Central, is looking to recruit around 400 new employees, reported Gulf News. Dubai Airports is looking for specialists in aviation, information technology and engineering. Walk-in interviews will commence on December 10 and both nationals and expatriates can apply.

Plane in Dubai security concern
- An Air India plane headed for Mumbai had to return to Dubai International Airport (DIA) an hour after take-off on Thursday to offload the luggage of a passenger who had failed to board the flight, reported Gulf News. Flight AI 716, which had taken off at around 5.30pm, was parked some distance from the main runway after its return to Dubai. The flight continued to Mumbai after the luggage was removed.

Emirates raises $297m for Boeing planes
- Emirates airlines said it has raised $297m for the financing of two Boeing aircraft in a German operating lease structure arranged by Doric Asset Finance & Verwaltungs. One Boeing 777 200LR was delivered in November and the next, a Boeing 777 300ER, is scheduled for delivery this month. The transactions involve a long-term operating lease for a period of 10 years with extension options.

Etihad joins marine specialist
- Abu Dhabi-based carrier Etihad Airways has joined forces with a marine specialist to provide travel services for the maritime industry. Etihad and International Airline Services are offering marine clients travel booking options. International Airline Services will operate as an outsourced marine reservations department, providing sales, ticketing and accounting services for Etihad customers.
