Egypt moves towards health tourism
- The Egyptian Tourism Authority (ETA) has announced plans to introduce more health tourism attractions to the country. To give the campaign a boost the international conference on health and therapeutic tourism will take place in Cairo on December 11. The conference will be attended by international experts who will share their expertise in the field of health and therapeutic tourism. It will highlight the importance of this sector for Egypt's tourism industry and raise awareness among government officials.

UAE & EU ink aviation pact
- The European Union (EU) and UAE have signed an aviation agreement that would allow European airlines to fly between the UAE and any EU member state. The deal dismissed nationality restrictions in bilateral air services agreements and acknowledges the existence of the European single market for air transport, the European Commission said in a statement. This marks the EU's first such deal in the Gulf region.

Royal Dutch returns to Muscat
- KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has resumed its operations to Muscat after a gap of more than five years, reported Khaleej Times. The airline will operate five weekly roundtrips to the Omani capital via Kuwait with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, offering 30 business class seats and 221 economy seats. The carrier said the move was prompted by Oman's rapid economic strides and tourism boom.

GCC hotel projects hit $18bn
- The value of hotel development projects in the GCC has reached $18bn, according to Proleads, which monitors regional construction projects. Current hotel projects in firm planning or construction phases show the UAE - and Dubai in particular - leading the way with the total value of projects pegged at $12.7bn. Nearly 100 new hotels are expected to be ready in the country by 2010, with a combined capacity of more than 30,000 rooms.

Sama flies to Amman
- Saudi Arabian budget carrier Sama will launch a new charter service to Amman from December 6. The flights will initially operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from Fahad International Airport in Dammam and King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh. The airline recently launched charter services to Abu Dhabi and Sharjah; it also flies to 12 local destinations in Saudi Arabia.

New tourism airline planned
- A group of Saudi Arabian and other Gulf based investors are planning to launch a new regional airline aimed specifically at connecting various tourism centres, reported Arab News citing the Al Eqtisadiah daily. The new firm would be based in Saudi Arabia and the project is being headed up by the Arabian Tourism Organisation's President Bandar Al Fhaid. No time-frame or possible destinations have as yet been revealed.

Five killed in cruise ship blaze
- Five Egyptians were killed and two more injured when a fire broke out on a cruise ship near the ancient city of Luxor, reported the AFP. It is believed the fire started in the engine room of the MS Aurora and then spread quickly throughout the ship. 43 French tourists had to be evacuated to another vessel.

Qatar Airways offer Oryx
- Qatar Airways has unveiled a new in-flight entertainment system, Oryx Entertainment, on the first of 32 Boeing 777s it is set to receive. The audio/video on demand system will contain more than 150 movies, 150 TV programmes, 500 audio CDs and 50 games. The new 777 will be deployed on the carrier's Washington route from next January.
