Gulf Air passenger delays
- Bahrain's Gulf Air has been accused of overbooking as around 100 passengers per day are being bumped off its flights, reported the Gulf Daily News. The problems started last Thursday with dozens of passengers stood down from flights destined for Europe and the Indian subcontinent. Travellers returning home for Eid and Christmas are facing delays and the airline has said it will take several days for the situation to rectify itself.

Jet Airways unveils Gulf flights
- India's Jet Airways will launch twice daily direct flights from Kuwait-Kochi and Bahrain-Kochi, as well as daily flights between Bahrain-Mumbai and Kuwait-Delhi, from January 5. Newspaper reports have also suggested that the carrier will roll out direct, daily services from Doha in Qatar to Mumbai and Calicut, Kerala on the same day. Jet Airways will use Boeing 737-800s on its various Gulf routes.

Kuwaiti firms eye $10bn deal
- Leading Kuwaiti firms including Agility and Abraj Holding are set to sign a deal worth $10bn to build an airport and other infrastructure in the Philippines, about 20 kilometres from Manila, reported Reuters citing the Arabic Al Qabas newspaper. The project would involve constructing an airport, a power station and a railway station. Neither Kuwaiti firm has confirmed that an agreement is near.

$3.3bn Ajman airport
- Ajman International Airport is to be built at a cost of around $3.3bn by 2011 on a site covering 60m sqft, reported Gulf News. The new facility will focus 65% of its operations on cargo flights, with the remainder being passenger services. The first phase, set to take 18 months to build, will include the main terminal buildings, the runway, an aviation school, workshops, a free zone and 90 commercial towers.

RAK Airways plans IPO
- Captain Khalid Almeer, the COO of RAK Airways, which made its inaugural flight to Dhaka on November 29, is planning to launch an initial public offering (IPO) at some point in the future, reported the Business Weekly. Almeer did not reveal the likely size of the IPO or an exact timeframe but said it might occur within two or three years of the commencement of operations.

Kerala Airlines plan pushed
- Yousuf Ali, the Director of Infrastructure Kerala and the Chairman of the UAE Chamber of Commerce, has called on the government of the south Indian state of Kerala to back the establishment of Kerala Airlines, reported the Indo-Asian News Service. If the carrier gets the go-ahead, it would offer low-cost flights from the Gulf region. Last week, a delegation from the UAE visited the state to discuss investment opportunities.

Airlines getting booked up
- UAE based airlines and travel agents are struggling to find seats for passengers wishing to get away for Eid and Christmas, reported Gulf News. Asian holiday destinations are proving more popular than European ones, partly due to the shorter flying times and warmer climates. A number of regional routes are also experiencing heavy traffic with Damascus, Beirut and Amman getting booked up by expatriates returning home.

Qatar off to Ahmedabad
- Qatar Airways inaugurated its new daily service to Ahmedabad, India's sixth largest city, last Thursday, December 13. The city becomes the airline's eighth destination in India and Qatar Airways is using an Airbus A320 with capacity for 144 passengers on the route. QR282 leaves Doha at 10.20pm and arrives in Ahmedabad at 3.45am, while the return leaves Ahmedabad at 4.45am and arrives in Doha at 6.00am.
