Nielsen to include web-linked TVs in its ratings

  • USA: Sunday, February 24 - 2013 at 04:38

Nielsen Media Research has decided to modify its rating system, as more people watch TV in many ways the company does not currently count, the New York Times has reported. Nielsen said that it would start considering viewers who have a television set connected to the internet, as "television households," potentially adding to the sample of homes that are rated by the company. The new definition "will include those households who are receiving broadband internet and putting it onto a television set," said Pat McDonough, the senior vice president for insights and analysis at Nielsen.
