NOVA Medical Centre appoints Dr. (Col) KM Harikrishnan as new General Manager

NOVA Medical Centre recently appointed Dr. (Col) KM Harikrishnan as the General Manager, in charge of its Operations.
His appointment into the senior management of Nova is in line with Nova India's initiative to establish Oman's first surgical centre focused on 'short-stay surgeries'. Short-stay surgery requires using minimally invasive techniques to reduce hospitalisation and improve recovery time. Dr. (Col) Harikrishnan's is an authority in Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgery, which includes minimally invasive techniques to treat gallbladder disease, appendicitis, hernias, hemorrhoids, anal fissure and pilonidal cyst. He is also adept at laparoscopic gynecological procedures such as excision of ovarian cysts, myomectomies and fully laparoscopic hysterectomies. Clearly, his appointment to the board of Nova will expedite the establishment of this unique healthcare delivery model in the Sultanate.
Dr. (Col) Harikrishnan attained his graduate degree from Maulana Azad Medical College and obtained his Master of Surgery degree, from Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), two of the most premier medical institutions in India. At AFMC, he was also appointed as a Clinical Tutor of the Department of Surgery based on his meritorious performances. He joined the Indian Army Medical Corps, where he served with distinction for over two decades both as a medical doctor and as a soldier. Later he went to the apex medical organization, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences for post doctoral training in advanced gastrointestinal surgery.
Dr. (Col) Harikrishnan has many accomplishments to his name. He was the first ever Army surgeon to train in Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgery in India. He has served in three of the busiest tertiary referral hospitals of the Indian Army as a consultant in GI Surgery, Laparoscopy and Endoscopy. Based on his excellent performance, he was admitted as Fellow of the American College of Surgeon and in 2002, he gained a scholarship work at the University Teaching Hospitals in UK.
Throughout his career, Dr. (Col) Harikrishnan has been a dedicated teacher and has trained scores of young surgeons in India and UK. He has held faculty position in the Ethicon Institute of Surgical Excellence, New Delhi, and the prestigious Wales Institute of Minimal Access Therapy, where he regularly conducted courses in Basic Surgical Sciences, Laparoscopy, Endoscopy and Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patients.
An author of numerous published papers, Dr. (Col) Harikrishnan was recently qualified for a Diploma in Medical Education from Cardiff University, Wales. He is currently concentrating on teaching doctors and paramedical staff on communication skills, patient safety and quality assurance, while actively pursuing his laparoscopic and general surgical interests. As an expert in his field, he is also committed to educating the general public in matters pertaining to healthy living.
