- PRESS RELEASE
The Afghanistan Pavilion at Global Village, the region's leading cultural, shopping and entertainment family outdoor destination, was officially opened last week.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests toured the pavilion and headed to the concert organized by the Afghanistan Pavilion held at Global Village's World Culture Stage. The concert featured Abdullah Moqori, one of Afghanistan's most popular singers and was a crowd puller.
The Afghanistan Pavilion at the theme park represents a country known for its mountains, valleys and historically strategic location. The country is also known to have great potential for a self-sufficient economy thanks to its livestock and agricultural land. Leather products with simple designs are showcased at the pavilion to express some of the country's finest products.
Known for its various agricultural products, this year's harvest is showcased at Global Village - Afghanistan pavilion and includes mountain almonds, pistachios, pine, walnuts and dried black and white berries, apricots, figs as well as raisins. The must try Afghani confetti, 'Noqol', is made from sugar coated mountain almonds.
Carpet weaving, in its old traditional form; still positions Afghani carpets among the best in the world. The purity of wool and silk used in the making as well as the eco-friendly colors derived from pomegranate, herbs, cinnamon in addition to many other natural ingredients, compose the final end-product of a "master piece" for a healthy home. Visitors can get the feel of carpet weaving at the entrance of the pavilion, as the Afghani carpet maker begins the work to reflect a homegrown tradition.
Before leaving the pavilion, trying a bottle of mountain honey is essential, or perhaps some of the natural rock sugar with saffron, or just Afghani saffron or maybe Iranian saffron. For those who can't tell the difference, both types of saffron are sold by the same exhibitor so saffron lovers can trace the differences.
With the kick-off of the Dubai Shopping Festival, Global Village is set to glow as the ideal destination for culture and entertainment. Its 37 pavilions, 26 restaurants and kiosks, all serve world cuisines and unique handmade aesthetic products. Fireworks, special children's activities and 'DSF specials' at the park makes it the most favored family outdoor destination in the region.
