Oman's transport ministry has said feasibility studies are ongoing on whether diesel or electricity is to be used to power the country's new railway network, Muscat Daily has reported. The railway network in the sultanate will be 1,061km, the ministry said. Lines will connect Buraimi to Al Ain and Sohar (136km), Sohar to Muscat governorate (242km) and Muscat to Duqm (486km). It will lead from Oman to UAE, where from a checkpoint in Khatmat Malaha, the line will divert to Fujairah. The cost of the railway project up to its execution is expected to be about OR5bn, the ministry said.
