Oman Drydock Company displays it's eco-friendly initiative as Platinum Sponsor at the Gulf Eco Conference 2013

Oman Drydock Company (ODC) SAOC is all set to display its eco-friendly initiative as Platinum Sponsor at the Gulf Eco Conference 2013. The 2 day Conference, organised by OITE Conferences, under the patronage of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, will be held from 21st-22nd January, 2013 at the Golden Tulip Hotel from 8:00 am onwards on both days.
ODC adopts effective environmental management practices that are in line with the regulations of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs.
The Company boasts several in-house environmental facilities namely an incinerator plant for burning of appropriate wastes, a sewage treatment plant for the treatment of arising sewage prior to disposal, a blasting copper slag recycling plant for recycling used blasting copper slag (minimising the exposure of copper slag wastage to the environment), a chemical treatment plant for the treatment of residual contaminated liquids prior to disposal, a slop and sludge treatment facility for receiving and processing of slop and sludge from the vessels and an isolated hazardous waste storage facility for the preservation of other hazardous wastages until arrangement has been made towards it's proper processing and disposal.
"Additionally our Environmental Emergency Preparedness Plan ensures effective management of any environmental emergency situation that may arise as a result of faulty operations. Our employees are also equipped with environmental control kits and the Company has also put into place competent personnel to foresee and deal with any difficulties that may arise and put the environment in jeopardy" concludes Mr. Al Mukhaini.
Oman Drydock Company (ODC) is one of the biggest and most modern ship repair yards in the Middle East. Located in Duqm, in the Al Wusta region of Oman, ODC is strategically located on the southeast corner of the Arabian Peninsula outside the 'Hormuz Strait' and is in close proximity to the busy regional trade routes traversing Oman's coast.
ODC was established in September 2006, by the Government of the Sultanate of Oman with 100% investment and is operated by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Company Limited (DSME) of Korea.
Taking place under the theme "Harnessing the potential of Oman's Renewable Energy, the Gulf Eco Conference 2013, held alongside the Gulf Eco Expo 2013, will touch upon various aspects essential to driving the country towards a clean energy future under four headings namely Regulations and Policy on Renewable Energy, Finance and Investment on Renewable Energy Projects, Solutions to Energy Challenges and Climate Change, Waste Management and Recycling.
