Oman floats tender for Masirah causeway study

  • Oman: Monday, February 18 - 2013 at 04:27

Oman is set to commission a detailed feasibility study designed to determine the financial costs for building a causeway linking Masirah Island with Shanna on the mainland, Oman Daily Observer has reported. The Tender Board invited qualified consultants to bid for the contract to provide advisory services for 'Economic and Social Feasibility Studies, Initial Planning and Cost Estimation for the Causeway between Shanna and Masirah Island.' The proposed project aims to serve as an effective alternative to the existing ferry service that operates between Shanna and Masirah. Given the length of the channel, which is roughly 30km across at Shanna, the causeway project is expected to cost up to OR250m, the report said.
