  • Oman: Monday, September 17 - 2012 at 12:38

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has scrapped plans to install a traffic signal countdown system in Muscat, due to the increasing number of the vehicles in the capital city, Times of Oman has reported. The number of the vehicles that had registered in the Sultanate in 2011 crossed the one million mark, said Col. Mohammed Awad Al Rawas, director general of traffic at ROP. Apart from reducing the usual traffic signal stress on the drivers, the system was aimed to reduce red signal violations, which at times lead to serious accidents.
