Oman Shipping Company takes delivery of its second very large ore carrier 'VALE SOHAR'

Oman Shipping Company S.A.O.C. (OSC) has taken delivery of its second very large ore carrier 'VALE SOHAR' at Jingsu Rongsheng Heavy Industries Company in Nantong in China on 28th September 2012.

This vessel will be used in transportation of iron ore from Brazil to Oman for the Vale's Iron Ore palletizing plant in Sohar. VALE SOHAR has a capacity of 400,000 tonnes. With this addition, the Company's fleet now consists of 42 vessels with a total DWT of about 6.8 million. The Company expects to take delivery of 3 more vessels in the 2nd half 2012 comprising 1 Very large Crude Carrier (317,000 DWT) and 2 Very Large Ore Carriers (400,000 DWT each).

OSC's first Very Large Ore Carrier 'VALE LIWA', also dedicated to bring Iron Ore to Vale 's plant in Sohar, was delivered earlier by Jingsu Rongsheng Heavy Industries Company on 20th August 2012 , which will commence loading its first consignment of Iron Ore at Tubarao, Brazil on 28 Sept 2012 destined for Sohar.

"VALE SOHAR" will be commercially managed by Oman Charter Company S.A.O.C. (OCC), and will be technically managed by Oman Ship Management Company S.A.O.C. (OSMC), both are wholly owned subsidiaries of OSC. By the year end, OSMC will directly manage a fleet of 23vessels, in-house, from its Muscat Headquarters.
