Omani lenders increase foreign securities investments

According to data by Oman's central bank, commercial banks in the sultanate have raised their investments in foreign securities significantly in 2012, amid surplus liquidity in the local banking system boosted by growth in deposits, Muscat Daily has reported. Commercial banks' investments in foreign securities surged 136% as of July 2012 to OR550.5m from OR233.8m a year ago. The apex lender's total investment in foreign securities also increased 14% to OR4.14bn in July 2012, compared with OR3.63bn in July 2011, while total foreign assets reached OR5.57bn in July 2012, the data showed.
