Omran provides record internships to nurture Omani talent during summer break

Omran CEO, Eng. Wael bin Ahmed Al Lawati welcomed a record intake of interns from a number of recognized Omani colleges and universities, including Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), The Higher College of Technology, GUTech, The Middle East College of Information Technology (MECIT), during the summer break.

As part of Omran's promise to develop local talent, 19 students majoring in specialist fields such as Civil Engineering, Architectural Designing, Urban Planning, Information Technology and Tourism Management joined the company to gain valuable experience as they prepare to embark on a professional career.

"Developing the youth of Oman is one of Omran's top priorities and we welcome the opportunity for college and university students to grow personally, academically and professionally with us," said Eng. Al Lawati.

"We have a responsibility to assist the next generation of Omanis to reach their potential. Under the guidance of our experienced and professional mentors, Omran is providing talented students with hands-on knowledge in domestic and international tourism. They get a real understanding and sense of appreciation for our considered approach as we create memorable destinations and experiences that build long-term benefits to local communities and the national economy, in harmony with our environment and natural resources."

Sulaiman bin Saleh Al Amri, a Tourism Management student from SQU, who was trained at Omran's Asset Management and Corporate Support Departments expressed, "Working at Omran was an eye-opener to many of life's lessons, the most important being the willing-to-learn and do attitude that one must have to succeed in today's dynamic working environment. It has been a pleasure working with a professional and highly capable team on some of Oman's most prestigious projects."

Eng. Al Lawati added, "Central to our business success is our pledge to developing our Omani workforce. Our Omanisation rate has increased by 6% in 2011 and currently stands at 70%. We work hard to augment this growth through providing our employees with professional development programs and training schemes that foster talent in all disciplines. The professional guidance provided to the interns is simply an extension of our employees' dedication to transfer knowledge and experience to next generation."

During the two-month program, Omran mentors supported the interns by drawing on their considerable expertise to give the students detailed and constructive feedback that highlighted the areas in which the trainees excelled in a professional scenario and the areas where further development was needed. All interns were presented with a certificate of appreciation to bolster their credentials.

Through partnerships with recognized institutes in the Sultanate, Omran aims to enrich the overall education received by students. As a result of their work at Omran, the interns return to their studies better armed with practical skills that will allow them to competitively join Oman's rapidly expanding job market.

In line with Omran's commitment to build the capacities of young Omanis, the company will continue to support and offer rewarding opportunities to college students each year.
