Ordinary citizens can be ambassadors for traffic safety says Traffic Safety Expo 2012

The Traffic Safety Expo 2012 to be held from 16th- 18th October 2012 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre will take place from 10:00 am-1:00pm and 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm as announced by Oman International Trade and Exhibitions (OITE), in coordination with Royal Oman Police (ROP).

Various government officials, ministries, supporters and organisations related to traffic safety will be represented at this three day event.

The Government of Oman and its various ministries are stepping up their efforts in promoting traffic safety in Oman this year. The Government on its part has spent significant amounts on the road projects which entail both construction and road improvement strategies.

The Ministry of Transport and Communication (MoTC) plans to activate public transportation and launch new public services, phase 1 of which will be carried out in the Al Batinah region.

MoTC hopes that in encouraging people to adopt public commuting services to their various destinations, the larger problems of traffic jams and road accidents can be addressed.

In association with the ROP the MoTC also plans to launch mobile vehicle weighing machines which will tackle the problem of overloading of vehicles in the upcoming months.

Efforts by the Ministry of Health include setting up of accident department in referral hospitals in Oman, procurement of equipment and trained manpower and launching of ambulance services on the Highway. Not restricting road safety awareness to adults but in a move to include children as well, Shell Oman in coordination with the Ministry of Education is striving to make education a part of the curriculum.

"The Government and its various ministries have been ambassadors for promoting the cause of traffic safety in the preceding years visible through their efforts for the same via the media. While the future sees a highly developed country with better roads and facilities, safer road practices, techniques and equipment and increased awareness, the ordinary citizen must take up the initiative to be the present and future ambassador for road safety. As an ambassador he will have the greater power in recruiting others to adopt and promote his cause while remaining loyal to his pledge for adopting safer habits. He can be an ordinary citizen with an extraordinary cause," says Mr. Alawi Almurazza, Traffic Safety Expo 2012.

Now in its 3rd edition, the Traffic Safety Expo 2012 will throw the spotlight on the latest technologies, products and solutions catering to road safety while encouraging greater public participation and invites all ordinary citizens to take up the extraordinary cause of traffic safety.
