PEIE seminar to underline importance of uplifting local workforce skills

As part of its concerted efforts to encourage advancement of current and future performance of local workforce, the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) will hold "Uplifting Local Workforce Skills" seminar next Tuesday at Grand Hyatt Muscat.

Due to significant increase in the number of Omanis joining all sectors and with the growing demand for a qualified, reliable and resourceful Omani workforce, it is vital that qualification and training reflect the needs of the variety of industries and eventually build a better skilled and qualified workforce in the Sultanate. Therefore, Uplifting Local Workforce Seminar will underscore challenges faced by employers, investors and business owners in qualifying and training employees.

To be held as part of the Oman Manufacturing Group (OMG) series of seminars, the event will highlight ways to build an effective partnership between the private and public sectors in order to develop training plans that respond to changing market needs and flexible requirements of current and future workforce; set up a legislative and regulatory framework responsive and consistent with Omanisation strategies to achieve Vision 2020 in the growth and development of the required manpower; find appropriate mechanisms to encourage the private sectors in uplifting their employees' skills and knowledge through responsive training programmes; enhance the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of the required qualifications and the training provided; and evaluate the outcomes of the training programmes that are intended to uplifting the employees skills and knowledge.

The first session of the seminar will be moderated by Ms. Malak Al Shaibani, Director General of the National Business Centre, and the speakers will include Mr. Mohammed Masoud Al Kharusi, Director Corporate Operations at MB Holding Company LLC; Mr. Steve Butler of Sohar Aluminum; Mr. Andrew Card of EMIC Training, Bahrain; and Dr. Khamis Said Al Muniri of the Ministry of Manpower. The second session will be moderated by Ms. Tonia Gray, MCIPD, General Manager of Competence HR, and the speakers will comprise Mr. Abdulmajeed Al Balushi, HR Capability Development Project Leader at Oman Oil Company; Mr. Faiz Al Maskiry, Chief Executive of Ajyal HR Solutions & Services; and Mr. Andrew Croft, General Manager of Talent2 - UAE.
