Starting their horseback journey from Ajman's Kempinski Hotel in Corniche earlier, and stopping at the Sharjah Ladies Club, the riders were welcomed by Noura Al Noman, Director General of the Executive office of HH Sheikha Jawaher Al Qassimi, Erum Mazher Adviser on Management and Development at the Executive office of HH Sheikha Jawaher Al Qassimi, along with Khawla Al Serkal, Director of Sharjah Ladies Club.
The riders continued their ride to the Heart of Sharjah and from there to Khalid's Lagoon, the 'Pink' riders arrived at Al Majaz Waterfront as the final resting place on the sixth day of their journey. Dozens of members of the public, media and volunteers participated in a two km breast cancer awareness walk-a-thon, called the Pink Walk, which was organised near Khalid Lagoon. Participants wore pink outfits to show their solidarity for the noble cause.
The fifteen riders of the Caravan were led by two of its ambassadors; Sheikh Khalid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Public Works in Sharjah and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, Director General of the Sharjah Statistics Centre. Alia and Sultan, Sheikh Saqr's children, were two of the youngest riders on the trek.
"Since its inception in 2011, the Pink Caravan has achieved significant milestones in its journey to dispel myths surrounding breast cancer," Sheikh Khalid said.
"Myself as well as my family strongly support this noble initiative. It is a moment of pride for me to say that we are now witnessing tangible results with the decreasing number of fatalities from the disease and increasing awareness. It is an honour for us as ambassadors to support the cause across all platforms and at all times."
Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani praised the efforts of the entire Pink Caravan team which was able to amass such great following and generate very positive results in a span of merely 3 years.
"The Pink Caravan's officials, riders and medical teams have exerted great effort and have displayed great commitment in achieving these results. We are proud to be the ambassadors of the Pink Caravan, and to be able to support the riders in their effort to changing UAE's landscape for good," he said.
On Thursday, the Pink Caravan's mobile clinics were set up at Al Majaz Waterfront in Sharjah and Al Helio Park in Ajman. On the sixth day of the ride, the Caravan's medical teams provided free screenings to 348 people in both the emirates.
