Pink Caravan receives warm welcome in Al Ain

The annual Ride of the Pink Caravan, the pan-UAE breast cancer awareness and early detection initiative by the Friends of Cancer Patients charitable organization (FoCP), concluded a 17 kilometre horseback journey to spread awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection in Al Ain City.

Sheikh Falah bin Khalifa bin Sultan bin Shakhbout Al Nahyan received the riders at the end of their journey in Al Ain.

The Pink Caravan's visit to Al Ain was warmly welcomed by a number of corporations, including Al Ain Municipality, Tawam Hospital, and Al Ain Club. Riders started their journey from Al Ain Club, where a delegation from the club led by Mohammed Rasid Mohammed Al Dhahiri, Head of the Al Ain Club Fans Association, welcomed the riders and presented the riders with the club's commemorative plaque in recognition of their role in fighting breast cancer. The riders then headed to Al Ain Municipality where they were received by a number of senior directors and employees.

Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Falah bin Khalifa bin Sultan bin Shakhbout Al Nahyan, said, "The Pink Caravan is an achievement that we are truly proud of and clear evidence of the thriving healthcare sector in the UAE. No doubt we are all delighted to support the efforts of this successful team. We are, also, thrilled to see such overwhelming public and corporate response to the initiative. This is a proof of their success in reaching their goals and will undoubtedly motivate them to keep on progressing through determination and hard work."

Mohammed Rashid Mohammed Al Dhahiri, Head of the Al Ain Club Fans Association, said, "The role played by the Pink Caravan is in keeping with the great humanitarian role played by our country in supporting public health and providing solutions to various health problems, including serious diseases such as breast cancer. We thank the Pink Caravan for the role they play and for selecting Al Ain as a starting point for their journey through the city. We hope they will repeat their visits to Al Ain and we are ready to offer all possible support to help them achieve their noble goals."

Tawam Hospital organised a reception for Pink Caravan's team upon their arrival to the venue of the mobile clinic. The hospital's management expressed their delight at the visit and reiterated their willingness to offer all support needed to make the medical team's activities a success.

Al Ain's residents organized a number of activities at Al Salamat Family Park, in honour of the first visit of the Pink Caravan's riders and medical team to the city, and in recognition of their outstanding efforts in providing health and awareness support to thousands of people.

On the 9th day of the campaign, the Pink Caravan's medical teams carried out medical screenings for 304 Emiratis and 72 expatriates, of which 31 cases were referred for mammogram screening and 7 cases were referred for ultrasound examination. The training sessions received 305 attendees, of whom 252 were Emiratis and 53 expatriates.

The Pink Caravan's riders are expected to culminate their 3rd annual ride in Abu Dhabi, where a gala closing ceremony will be held under the patronage and presence of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and President of Zayed University, and HE Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade, and in presence of HE Michael Corbin Ambassador of the United States to the United Arab Emirate and a number of dignitaries and senior officials. The Pink Caravan's mobile clinics will be set up at Burjeel Hospital.
