Oman's Port of Duqm has launched its first phase of commercial operations, Oman Daily Observer has reported. "The launch of the first phase of its commercial operations in the 300-metre length of the commercial quay marks a milestone towards supporting the commercial activities of the region while contributing to the national economy," said the commercial director of the Port of Duqm Co (PDC), Reggy Vermeulen. The port's 9.6km of breakwater, 2.25km commercial berth for project cargo, bulk and containers has been completed and a roughly 1km long quay wall for government vessels is nearing completion. A water depth of 19 metres in the approach channel and 18 metres at the commercial berths allows safe reception and handling of ships with capacities of up to 150,000DWT. DPC is a joint venture between Oman government and Consortium Antwerp Port (CAP) in Belgium.
