Princess Sumaya welcomes students to the PSUT Model U.N

Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), has applauded the efforts of young people to take part in public and political life.

Speaking at the opening of the PSUT Model United Nations Conference 2012 (PSUT-MUN), the Princess acknowledged that her audience, like many other young people around the world, was asking questions that define our age: "You want to assert your identity and to establish your place in a rapidly changing world. You who have not collected the worldly baggage of older generations are demanding more from our leaders."

Princess Sumaya said that PSUT-MUN's overarching theme of 'Youth' was a timely response to an urgent need to bring the policy-making debate to those young people who desperately wish to have a voice: "Your three subthemes of youth in politics, unemployment and the economic crisis could not be timelier or more appropriate," said HRH, "as, all around the world, young people have proven themselves to be a catalyst for reform - and not least in our own region."

The Princess assured her audience that a vital part of developing an international mind-set was about remembering the important things about oneself and one's community, as this would provide the tools of strength and wisdom.

Princess Sumaya acknowledged that young people everywhere are seeking a world in which peace, prosperity and opportunity are the rights of all people, regardless of race, religion or class: "You want a world of hope that embraces the opportunities offered by new technology and innovation. You want all of this and you should have it."

HRH said that young people today should not feel that they have been born at an impossible time, a time like no other that has gone before: "For this is not the first occasion that our modern world has gone through turmoil and change." HRH added, "We must learn from history and we must think multilaterally, as we strive to build a better world."
