Professional drivers in UAE required to obtain annual permits
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, October 28 - 2012 at 04:01
According to new UAE federal law, drivers will have to pass an annual mandatory medical test to obtain the necessary permits to work as professional drivers in the country, Gulf News has reported. The legislation that will come into effect by 2013 requires all professional drivers to obtain a professional driver's permit and have it renewed every year. It covers all categories of drivers and will bar cabbies, bus drivers, heavy vehicle and pick up drivers, as well as chauffeurs and domestic drivers with certain health conditions such as heart ailments, diabetes and epilepsy from continuing with their jobs.
