Pure Gold Jewellers donates to Philippines Typhoon Bopha victims

Pure Gold Jewellers has donated $50,000 to help Typhoon Bopha victims in the Philippines. Firoz Merchant, Chairman of Pure Gold Jewellers met with His Excellency Frank R. Cimafranca, Consul General, Consulate General of the Republic of Philippines in the UAE, to offer support for the typhoon victims.
According to the Consulate, more than 5 million people have been affected by the typhoon and livelihoods of many farmers and fishermen have been damaged, in addition to many people being displaced or rendered homeless.
Firoz Merchant, Chairman of Pure Gold Jewellers said: "I am deeply saddened by the condition of those affected by the typhoon. Filipinos contribute greatly to the retail sector and other economic sectors in the UAE and we have many staff from the Philippines. We join them in a spirit of solidarity during this difficult time and we are doing the best to contribute to helping those who are suffering because of the destruction caused by the typhoon."
The donated amount will go towards the rebuilding of communities devastated by Typhoon Bopha.
According to His Excellency Frank R. Cimafranca, the damage to property and infrastructure caused by the typhoon as well as the loss of lives are quite enormous. "More than 1,000 people have died and several hundred are still missing in the two provinces badly hit by the tropical storm."
"We are very grateful to Pure Gold Jewellers and kind hearted individuals especially from the Filipino community here in Dubai, for their generous donations. The donated funds will go a long way to help alleviate the plight and suffering of the typhoon victims", the Consul-General added.
