- PRESS RELEASE
As part of its Ramadan charity initiatives, award winning jewellery retailer Pure Gold Jewellers will contribute to the release of 1000 prisoners jailed for debt cases in the UAE. This will be completed during the Holy month.
According to Firoz Merchant, Chairman of Pure Gold Jewellers: "We are grateful to be in a position to help those who are unfortunately not able to pay back their loans taken in good intentions and are now in prison without any means to pay back their debts. Ramadan is a time of charity and brotherhood and we are extending our help to release 1000 prisoners during the Holy month."
He added: "The initiative will continue till next Ramadan and during the given time frame we will be able to help repatriate 3,000 prisoners by either paying off their debts or contributing to their airfare. This may cost approximately Dhs4m. The initiative will help the prisoners to reunite with their dependent families back home and resume a new life."
Since last year the company has spent approximately Dhs2.5m in total to assist in the repatriation of insolvent prisoners in the UAE. This includes paying off the debts of 150 prisoners and contributing towards air tickets for an additional 1,350 released prisoners.
In addition to the initiative to release prisoners, the company has contributed Dhs150,000 for Yemen through Red Crescent Society and will be donating Dhs200,000 for underprivileged in Somalia through Red Crescent Society during the Holy month.
