Qatar Airway denies GATU poaching claims

  • Qatar: Sunday, March 10 - 2013 at 06:17

Qatar Airways has denied claims it is trying to poach Gulf Air staff facing mass redundancies, Gulf Daily News has reported. The Gulf Air Trade Union (Gatu) said mass layoffs at the Bahraini carrier would only serve to make other regional airlines stronger. "Both Qatar Airways and Emirates are here to hire foreigners or expatriates that Gulf Air has dismissed and they are doing it immediately and even without a feasibility study," said Gatu spokesman, Mohammed Mahdi. A Qatar Airways spokeswoman denied the claims and said: "We just needed a sales executive that we advertised last week, but we filled that position." Officials from Emirates could not be reached for comment.
