Qatar Airways in row with Boeing over Dreamliner cabin quality

  • Qatar: Tuesday, September 18 - 2012 at 15:49

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker has revealed that the carrier is in a spat with Boeing over the quality of the cabins in its new 787 Dreamliner. "We have a steady stream of 777 deliveries, but we have a problem with the 787. The problem is both technical and..(with) the quality of the cabin. Qatar Airways is very meticulous about our cabins and we will not take a cabin even if there is just a scratch. So we have a huge pissing match with Boeing to deliver cabins," he told AMEInfo's Phil Blizard.

Asked what has changed since the aircraft was displayed at the Farnborough Air Show, Al Baker explained, "I am still happy with them, but at Farnborough our airplane to you looked all done, but actually there were still a lot of things that they had to put in the cabin. There were so many passenger amenities that (you couldn't see) with your eye, but there were systems that were not ready. This is why it was not delivered. When (the aircraft) came to Farnborough, the plane was not a property of Qatar Airways, even though it was in Qatar Airways colours. It only becomes a property of Qatar Airways when the title transfer takes place," he said.

Al Baker also dismissed media reports that his airline is in talks with British Airways about a possible joint venture.
