At today's third session of ASPIRE4SPORT Mr Jassim Telefat, Technical Director of Qatar Foundation's Capital Projects, outlined some of the Foundation's future construction plans, while stressing their sustainability credentials. The session, entitled 'Aspire-BUILD', was attended by experts from the fields of engineering, architectural design and infrastructure, who discussed the construction and execution of Doha's future football stadiums and other sporting venues.
Qatar Foundation is coordinating with the Legacy Committee and the Security Committee, who fall under the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee.
Qatar Foundation will be home to one of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup's stadia. The arena, along with all of the Foundation's future construction projects, has been designed with the environment in mind. The pitch's cooling systems have been planned to meet specific green criteria outlined by the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certificate.
Mr Telefat explained that the stadium plans are illustrative of a wider Qatar Foundation project to help promote physical fitness and health nationwide. A wellness centre will be built to provide the community with recreation facilities and a variety of sports-related activities. It will house an olympic-sized swimming pool, ideal for team training, and a multipurpose indoor space which can be used for volleyball, tennis, football, cricket and rugby. As Qatar's reputation as a host of high-profile sporting events continues to grow, it is hoped that the wellness centre will also be considered for future international competitions.
"We strive, through the construction of these modern sport facilities, to support the efforts of Qatar to host a multitude of international events and world sports championships. Through this project, we are keen to contribute towards achieving the Foundation's vision of developing the community and encouraging Qatar's residents to lead a healthy lifestyle by providing them with the latest sports facilities," said Mr Telefat.
"The current plans developed by Qatar Foundation for the stadium and its surrounding facilities will ensure that these amenities are used on a daily basis by members of Qatar Foundation, as well as the rest of the community in Qatar."
The Qatar Foundation stadium will be the first arena to be constructed in advance of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
