Qatar to invest $18bn in Egypt

Qatar's foreign minister, Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim has said the Gulf country plans to inject $18bn worth of investments into Egypt over the course of the coming five years, Ahram has reported. Some $8bn of the total will be allocated to electricity and natural gas projects in areas east of the Suez Canal, where Egypt has longstanding plans to build a massive industrial city, said Sheikh Hamad. Another $10bn will go to a planned tourist resort on Egypt's north coast, he added.
