Qatar moves to control prices

The Qatari cabinet is set to introduce amendments to existing laws aimed at regulating and monitoring the pricing of mainly food items and toughening the prison terms and fines for violators of the law, the Peninsula has reported. The move will entitle the minister of business and trade to fix the maximum wholesale and retail prices of a number of items, mainly food and hotel room tariffs, and determine the profit margins for the producers, importers and retailers, the cabinet said.
