Qatar Petroleum to offer advanced paramedic training program to its staff

Qatar Petroleum (QP) has recently embarked on an ambitious venture to deliver an internationally-certified paramedic training program for its paramedic crew providing Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS).

The program will be implemented by QP's Medical Services Department in partnership with its Corporate Training Department. It will be conducted over a period of one year, and it will consist of a combination of classroom instruction, emergency department training, and ambulance preceptor training. The successful candidates will be certified as qualified paramedics.

The corporation has already received permission to deliver this rigorous US-based training program after being awarded certification from Tarrant County College, an educational institution based in Dallas, Texas, and offering a full range of emergency medical services (EMS) and paramedic programs.

In awarding the certification to QP, Tarrant County College recognizes the corporation's first-class training facilities as well as the skills and qualifications of its in-house corporate paramedic and EMS staff.

The training program, which will initially be implemented to a select group of 16 EMS staff, is expected to enhance the level of emergency medical services provided by QP as well as boost the critical decision-making abilities and emergency preparedness as paramedics.

Dr. Mahmood Al-Jaidah, Manager for Medical Services of QP, stated that this level of paramedic training is the first of its kind in the country and the training partnership will enable QP's Medical Services Department to remain at the forefront of emergency medical care in Qatar.
