Qatar plans to upgrade Al-Shamal into a tourist destination
- Qatar: Saturday, January 05 - 2013 at 05:17
Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) has unveiled plans to convert Al-Shamal municipality into a major tourist destination, Gulf Times has reported. The project would include the construction of a modern harbour and developing the area's archaeological heritage that traces back to pre-Islamic times, said QTA chairman, Issa bin Mohamed al-Mohannadi. The project also includes building infrastructure including hotels, roads and other facilities. "People think Doha is the only option when it comes to exploring Qatar. It is not the case...we have this place as well, less buzzing though but having its own flair to offer," said al-Mohannadi.
