Qatar renames new international airport

Abdul Aziz Al Noaimi, chairman of the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, has announced the New Doha International Airport (NDIA) will be renamed as Hamad International Airport, the Peninsula has reported. The $15.5bn airport, which was scheduled to open in 2009, will have the world's longest commercial runway at 4850 metres, with a second of 4250 metres. It will initially have the capacity to handle 28 million passengers a year, before being extended in a second phase to handle 50 million.
