Qatar urges residents to take flu shots

  • Qatar: Monday, September 24 - 2012 at 09:19

The head of Infectious Diseases department at Qatar's HMC has urged residents, especially those with underlying chronic medical conditions, to get vaccinated against seasonal flu ahead of winter to protect themselves from contracting the influenza virus, which could prove fatal, Gulf Times has reported. "The yearly influenza season is expected to start in October and the flu virus could be a very bad viral infection that can cause fever, cough as well as frustration as those affected get sick for few days," Dr Abdul-Latif al-Khal said. "We also strongly recommend that people belonging to these categories in Qatar should receive the flu shots, which are safe and widely available in all HMC hospitals," he said.
