Qatargas hosts International Gas Union Task Force 1 meeting in Doha

Qatargas hosted the meeting of the International Gas Union (IGU) Task Force 1 Committee (Building Strategic Human Capital) in Doha from September 19 - 20. A total of 66 delegates from 25 countries representing 40 companies were invited to the meeting.

Qatargas Human Resources Manager, Abdulaziz Al-Mannai, is the Deputy Chair of the Task Force 1, one of the committees of the IGU. Task Force 1 is charged with looking into human capital development and current and emerging challenges facing the gas industry.

Currently, activities of the Task Force are focused on ways and means of attracting and retaining new talent into the gas sector worldwide, making the gas industry an attractive place to work and focusing on the development of those skills that will be required by the industry in the coming years.

Mr. Al-Mannai was inducted as the Deputy Chair for the IGU Human Resources Task Force during the 25th World Gas Conference (WGC) held in Kuala Lumpur in June this year. Jupiter Ramirez, Head of LNG Marketing (Qatargas 3) is a member of the IGU Executive Committee.

The Doha meeting is the first of six meetings of the Task Force 1 committee scheduled to be held during the current triennium of the IGU which runs from 2012 - 2015.

Qatargas is a charter member of the IGU, a global non-profit organization founded in 1931 and registered in Vevey, Switzerland. The objective of IGU is to promote advocacy for the technical and economic progress of the natural gas industry. The members of IGU are associations and entities of the gas industries in 78 countries. The Secretariat of the IGU is currently located in Oslo, Norway.

Collaborating with many global energy organizations, the IGU covers all domains of the gas industry from exploration and production of natural gas onshore or offshore, pipeline and piped distribution systems to customers' premises and combustion of the gas at the point of use.

The programmes developed for the WGC, which takes place every three years, are implemented by Working Committees of the IGU. There are five Working Committees, five Programme Committees, and three Task Force Committees which will be working on the programmes for the next WGC. The topics are varied and reflect all aspects of the natural gas business.
