QIB named best Islamic bank in Qatar by The Asset Magazine

Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) - the benchmark Shari'a-compliant bank in Qatar - announced it has been named the best Islamic bank in Qatar by the Asset Magazine in yet another recognition for its leading position in the country. QIB also received an award for the best Islamic deal in Qatar for its role as the Facility agent for the Islamic tranche in Barzan $10.3bn gas project.

The bank was handed the awards at a ceremony held recently in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lampur.

The Asset Magazine argued that QIB had managed to set and enforce the highest standards for Islamic banking in Qatar and beyond, and performed consistently well despite the adverse global financial conditions and the rising local competition.

Ahmed Meshari, Acting CEO, QIB commented: " Our transformation programme that was launched last year has started to bear fruit, having a positive impact on the Bank's performance and our customer service levels allowing us to meet the growing expectations of our valued customers. We are pleased that the industry has appreciated our achievements with this award."

Hong Kong-based The Asset Magazine has been running Islamic Finance Awards for a few years now and have gained credibility in the market since then due to its stringent screening and short listing process.
