Qatar National Research Fund launches 13th cycle of UREP

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) has announced the launch of the 13th cycle of the Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP), its longest-running research funding program as of yet.

QNRF, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, is dedicated to building research capacity and creating a vibrant research culture in Qatar.

Applicants interested in this cycle of UREP may now submit their proposals online through the QNRF website. Upon submission, the proposals will undergo a vetting process by their institutions prior to being evaluated by three independent peer reviewers who are established experts in their fields. Proposals will be accepted from faculty members until 18 October 2012. As in previous cycles, the winning proposals of the 13th cycle of UREP will receive a grant from QNRF in order to carry out their research proposal.

UREP is targeted at creating a broad array of research opportunities for undergraduate students in Qatar's educational institutions. First launched in October 2006, UREP has since seen the completion of 12 successful cycles. There have been a total of 1,386 proposals submitted for consideration during this time. Of these, 602 grants, with total sum of $17.9m, have been awarded to 1,859 undergraduate students to carry out their research projects.

With the launch of this 13th cycle of UREP, QNRF reaffirms its commitment to promoting a philosophy of "learning by doing." Through this dynamic program, QNRF encourages undergraduate students to unleash their research potential. With two cycles in a year, UREP endeavors to enhance the learning experiences of undergraduate students by encouraging faculty members to integrate students into their ongoing scholarly and professional activities.
