Qtel celebrates Qatar's Olympic success with free SMS for all

In celebration of Qatar's first medal at the 2012 London Olympics, Qtel today announced a special one-day promotion where all Qtel Hala and Shahry customers can enjoy free local and international SMS to tell the world.

Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah's Bronze Medal in the men's skeet (rifle shooting) competition on day four of the 2012 London Olympic Games has delighted the whole country, as Qatar became the first nation in the Arab World to receive a medal at the 2012 Olympics.

To reward him for his remarkable achievement, Qtel is providing Al-Attiyah with a special Shahry Line with unlimited SMS, mobile Internet, local and international calling for life.

Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, CEO, Qtel Qatar, said: "This is an exceptional achievement that deserves an exceptional reward. Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah is the pride of Qatar today, as our nation continues to raise its profile in the international sporting world. We hope all our customers can share their joy at his achievement and cheer on the rest of the Qatar Olympic team with a full day of free SMS to friends in Qatar and around the world."

Al-Attiyah, who is the first Qatari national to win a shooting medal, is the third Olympic medal winner from Qatar, after Mohamed Suleiman in men's 1,500m in 1992 and Saif Assad in men's weightlifting in 2000. Hopes are high that other competitors in Qatar's Olympic team can add to this tally, particularly with the strong presence of women athletes in the team this year.

The free SMS offer runs from 12 noon on Wednesday 1 August through to 12 noon on Thursday 2 August. Hala and Shahry customers can send unlimited SMS locally and internationally, sending as many text messages as they want. The offer is for local and international SMS from Qatar and does not apply for roaming SMS sent while overseas.

Qtel hopes customers will share their national pride at the historic medal win with people around the world, as the company continues its proud record of being a major supporter of sport at all levels in Qatar as the Official Sponsor of the Qatar Olympic Committee for the London 2012 Olympics.
