- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai-based Quest Qualitas one of the leading multi-faceted international suppliers of heavy equipment for construction, industrial, agriculture and mining sectors, has been certified carbon neutral, by myclimate, the international non-profit foundation based in Switzerland.
Quest Qualitas which operates throughout the Middle East and East Africa, with branch offices in Juba South Sudan, is committed to sustainability and the environment.
"We decided to choose myclimate to manage our carbon emissions, because it has a number of international gold standard projects in East Africa, an area that we operate in and we want to be a responsible member of the developing communities in that region," he added.
Farnek Consulting a leading Middle East energy consultancy and part of one of the largest facilities management companies in the region, is myclimate's partner in the Middle East. Farnek provides consultancy and advisory to enable organisations to calculate their carbon emissions and to support their plans to offset those emissions by funding projects which reduce the energy consumption significantly. Only companies that decide to offset their full emissions can be awarded a carbon neutral label.
"Quest Qualitas has offset 31 tonnes of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to the amount of carbon released by a roundtrip flight from Dubai to Doha on an Airbus A318. Their commitment to carbon management as a strategy for environmental protection sends out a very positive CSR message," said Sandrine Le Biavant, Division Manager, Farnek Consulting.
"These maybe modest savings but there are very few companies, offsetting their carbon emissions in the Middle East at the moment. So if every SME contributed in the same way, collectively they would make a real difference," she added.
Award-winning Farnek Consulting identified the amount of energy that was being used and calculated the amount of carbon that the operation was releasing into the atmosphere. That included everything from the company's vehicles, office staff, electricity consumption and office consumables - even flights and hotel accommodation planned for business trips were taken into consideration.
As one might expect, Farnek is an environmental pioneer in its own right, it not only consults, it leads by example. In 2010 the company launched the first carbon neutral bus in the region to transport its staff and its offices and staff accommodation are models of sustainability, with a raft of carbon reducing features from low energy light bulbs to water diffusers and energy-saving modules that regulate air conditioning units.
