Rabban Readymix completes colossal concrete pour

Working in line with the National Vision 2030, Rabban was the first to introduce fully computerized automated batching plants.

Through its fleet of mixer trucks and concrete pumps, it is able to deliver to exacting standards a complete range of products and materials required for the burgeoning construction industry.

Rabban Readymix, which had recently undertaken a major revamp to improve production capacity and efficiency, was contracted to supply a foundation pour of 7,000+ m3 to be delivered on a continuous basis to avoid cold joints.

It was a difficult logistical exercise; needing more than 60 concrete mixers on rotation for 47 hours continuously to complete the job. The delivery of all trucks also had to be carefully coordinated to prevent road congestion while ensuring there were enough trucks on site to maintain a continuous pour.

"Seven pumps were used; five operational and two on standby," said Koos Fourie CEO of Rabban Readymix. "I'm very proud of how hard the Rabban team worked on this difficult pour," he added.

The pour was targeted to be completed in 40 to 45 hours. The company supplied the pours from two locations, Doha Industrial Area and Lusail Logistics; with two plants in the Doha Industrial Area with a joint capacity of 190 m3 per hour, and two others in Lusail logistics also with a joint capacity of 155 m3 per hour.

The concrete pour started at 3.00pm on Thursday, February 14th, 2013, and went on till 2.00pm on Saturday 16th February 2013, this included a period of 6 hours, when no concrete could be supplied due to fog stopping all HGVs operating on the highways of Doha.

Rabban's technical personnel were present on site during the entire project to monitor quality and carry out slump, temperature and take cubes for quality control purposes. They also worked in conjunction with an independent testing company to monitor the properties of the concrete and ensure it remained within the specified slump range.
